Temecula Sedation Dentistry for Anxious Patients
The appointment you’ve been putting off just got easier
Sedation dentistry uses medication to keep you comfortable. For many, it’s the difference between avoiding care and completing everything in 1-2 relaxed visits.
Relax. We’ve got you from here
Dental anxiety can make even a routine appointment feel bigger than it is. At Paul Mundl, DDS, we offer sedation dentistry in Temecula for patients who need extra help relaxing during treatment, including IV sedation, nitrous oxide, and oral sedation.
We’ll talk with you about your health history, the treatment you need, and how you feel about dental care before recommending an option.
Now offering IV sedation for your most relaxed visit yet
IV sedation offers the deepest level of relaxation we provide, and many patients remember little or nothing of their appointment.
A certified dental anesthesiologist comes to our Temecula office to administer the sedation and monitor you continuously from start to finish, which means Dr. Mundl’s full attention stays on your dental treatment. IV sedation is often the right fit for longer appointments, extensive restorative work, or significant dental anxiety.
We’ll review your health history and give you clear instructions for eating, medications, and transportation beforehand.
Sedation for restorative and cosmetic appointments
Complex dental care often involves several steps, and understanding the whole plan can make treatment feel much more manageable. For patients undergoing restorative dentistry or full-mouth reconstruction, we review the treatment sequence, timing, costs, and details before moving forward. We can discuss sedation for appointments completed in our office when it’s appropriate for your needs.
Dr. Mundl is the only AACD-Accredited cosmetic dentist in Temecula, and our approach to comprehensive cases considers both function and appearance. For larger transformations, Smile PreVu provides a digital before-and-after simulation so you can better understand the proposed result before treatment begins.
Sedation dentistry built around your comfort
Different patients need different levels of support. Some people simply want to take the edge off their nervousness, while others feel anxious about longer or more involved appointments. As your Temecula sedation dentist, our goal is to match the approach to the person and procedure while making sure you understand what to expect.

IV sedation with a dental anesthesiologist
For patients who need a deeper level of relaxation, IV sedation can be arranged at our Temecula office. Dr. Mundl does not personally administer IV sedation. We bring in a certified anesthesiologist to administer and monitor the sedation while Dr. Mundl focuses on providing your dental treatment.

Nitrous oxide sedation
Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small mask placed over your nose and can help you feel more relaxed while remaining responsive during treatment. Its effects wear off quickly after the gas is stopped, making it a useful option for many patients who want lighter sedation. We’ll review your health and treatment needs before deciding if nitrous oxide is appropriate.

Oral sedation
Oral sedation uses prescribed medication to help reduce anxiety before and during dental treatment. It can be helpful for patients who feel more than mild nervousness or are preparing for a longer appointment. If oral sedation is part of your plan, we’ll give you specific instructions beforehand, including any preparation or transportation requirements that apply.
Who can benefit from sedation dentistry?
Sedation can be useful when anxiety has kept you from scheduling care, when you have a strong gag reflex, or when your treatment plan involves longer appointments. It can also make it easier to move forward with restorative or cosmetic care you have postponed because the thought of dental treatment feels overwhelming. The right option depends on your health history, anxiety level, and the work being planned.
Comfort goes beyond medication, too. Our Temecula dental office offers amenities such as neck pillows, blankets, and music, and we take the time to answer questions before treatment begins. If you are visiting us for the first time, our new patient information explains what to expect and how we approach personalized treatment planning.
What sedation means for implant-related care here
Our role in implant dentistry is specific. We don’t place dental implants in our office. Implant surgery is referred to oral surgeons who specialize in placement, while Dr. Mundl restores implants after the surgical phase.
If you come to us for an implant restoration or broader reconstruction, sedation can be considered for the restorative appointments performed here, not for implant placement. We use CBCT imaging and intraoral scanning for diagnosis and planning, and our restorative work uses genuine Straumann implant components.
Our complimentary dental implant consultation includes a CBCT image and intraoral scan. We can explain what is completed in our office, what is handled by the oral surgeon, and how each phase fits into the overall treatment plan. If sedation is appropriate for restorative treatment here, we can discuss that separately as part of your comfort plan.
What to expect before sedation
A thoughtful sedation plan begins with an honest conversation about your health. Tell us about medications, allergies, medical conditions, previous experiences with sedation or anesthesia, and anything that makes dental treatment difficult for you. Depending on the sedation method, we’ll also provide instructions about eating, drinking, medications, transportation, and recovery.
You’ll know which option we recommend and why before treatment day. We want you to understand both your dental treatment and the comfort measures surrounding it instead of arriving unsure about what will happen. Learn more about insurance, CareCredit, payment options, and our membership plan here.

Care for Longer Appointments
Your Questions Answered
What sedation options do you offer?
We offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation. When IV sedation is appropriate, an expert anesthesiologist comes to our office to administer and monitor it while Dr. Mundl provides dental treatment.
Will I be asleep during dental sedation?
Not necessarily. Your experience depends on the sedation method and level selected, and some options are designed to help you relax while remaining responsive. We’ll explain what you can expect beforehand.
Can sedation help with full-mouth reconstruction?
Sedation can be considered for restorative and reconstruction appointments performed in our office when appropriate. We’ll review your treatment plan, medical history, and comfort needs before recommending an option.
Does Dr. Mundl use IV sedation for implant placement?
No. Dr. Mundl doesn’t place implants in our office or personally administer IV sedation. Implant placement is referred to oral surgeons, while Dr. Mundl restores implants and a trusted anesthesiologist provides IV sedation here when appropriate for treatment performed in our office.
Expertise without overlooking comfort
We want to know what makes you nervous, which past experiences have been difficult for you, and what helps you feel more comfortable and in control. Clear communication and careful planning remain part of the appointment from beginning to end.
If fear or anxiety has been keeping you away from care, tell us when you schedule. We’ll discuss the available options and help determine what level of support makes sense for your treatment. Contact our Temecula office or call (951) 676-1232 to get started.
