Temecula Dental Crowns
Restore strength and beauty to your smile
What a dental crown does for a damaged tooth
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over a damaged, weakened, or heavily restored tooth. It fully covers the tooth above the gumline, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance in a single restoration.
Our Temecula dental crowns are crafted from high-quality materials, including porcelain, zirconia, and gold. For front teeth and highly visible areas, we use porcelain or zirconia designed to match the look and feel of your surrounding teeth. Whether you need to protect a cracked tooth, rebuild after a large filling, or complete a dental implant, a crown gives the tooth what it needs to function again.
When a crown is the right choice
We recommend crowns when a tooth has too much damage to be repaired with bonding or a filling alone.
Common reasons patients need a crown:
- A tooth is cracked, fractured, or broken
- Decay has spread too far for a filling to hold
- A tooth has become weak after a root canal
- A large old filling needs to be replaced, and the remaining structure is limited
- A dental implant needs a final restoration
- A tooth is severely worn from grinding
During your consultation, Dr. Mundl examines the tooth and explains whether a crown is the most appropriate option for your situation.
What to expect from your crown appointment
Your Temecula dental crown is typically completed in two visits. Here is what the process looks like:
- We begin with a comprehensive exam and take x-rays to evaluate the full condition of the tooth and surrounding structure.
- The tooth is gently prepared, and a small amount of enamel is reshaped to create a proper fit for the crown.
- An impression is taken to capture the exact dimensions of the prepared tooth and your bite.
- A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth while your permanent restoration is crafted.
- At your second visit, the temporary is removed, and the custom crown is fitted, adjusted, and secured in place.
Staying comfortable during your crown visit
If dental work makes you tense up, a crown appointment doesn’t have to. Along with local anesthetic to keep the tooth numb, Dr. Mundl offers sedation and comfort options for patients who’d like extra help relaxing. Tell us before we begin, and we’ll make sure you’re at ease the whole time.

Answers to your questions
How long do dental crowns last?
Does getting a dental crown hurt?
Can a crown be placed on any tooth?
How do I care for a crowned tooth?
Do I need a crown or a filling?
A filling repairs a smaller area of decay, while a crown is the better choice when a tooth is cracked, heavily worn, or missing too much structure for a filling to hold. Dr. Mundl will show you what he sees and recommend whichever protects your tooth best.
How much does a dental crown cost?
The cost depends on the tooth and the crown material, and much of it may be covered by dental insurance. We’ll give you a clear estimate before treatment and review your options.

One crown, one tooth, one perfect match

Matching a single front tooth is one of the hardest things in cosmetic dentistry. Two teeth side by side, one of them yours, and most people spot the difference instantly.
This patient had a failing crown on his upper right front tooth. He had been told both front teeth would likely need crowns to match. That is common advice, and sometimes it is right. But it means treating a perfectly healthy tooth to solve a color problem, and Dr. Mundl would rather leave a healthy tooth alone.
So we matched instead. We studied the neighboring tooth closely (its color, how light passes through it, its surface texture) and worked with our master ceramist on a custom-shaded layered IPS e.max crown built to those exact notes.
The crown disappears into his smile. His healthy left front tooth was never touched.
Great cosmetic dentistry is not about treating more teeth. It is about treating the right ones.
